AI Can’t Do This.

May 21, 2026 Ellen Leikind

Honing Your Superpower in AI Times

AI can do a lot.

It writes emails.
Summarizes meetings.
Helps you prepare for presentations.
Lets you rehearse difficult conversations before asking for raises or navigating conflict.

But here’s what it can’t do.

It can’t walk into a room and feel the energy shift.

It doesn’t notice someone shutting down in a negotiation.
Or pick up on hesitation behind confidence.
Or sense when someone says “I’m fine” but clearly isn’t.

It can’t build trust the way people do.

And that matters now more than ever.

Because as technology becomes more accessible, the differentiator is no longer how much you know.

It’s emotional intelligence.

The Skills that Will Matter Most

The people who stand out and thrive will be the ones who can:

  • Read nonverbal cues
  • Communicate clearly under pressure
  • Understand and navigate different personalities
  • Build confidence and trust in real time

That’s not old-school.

That’s the new reality.

3 Ways to Sharpen These Skills This Week

1. Listen for what’s not being said
The pause before the answer. The shift in tone. The sudden silence. The person who says all the right words, but something still feels off. The real message is often hiding between the lines.

2. Stop treating difficult conversations like a script to get through
Yes, prepare. Know your point. Know your ask. But once the conversation starts, pay attention to the person in front of you. Are they leaning in or pulling back? Are they open, defensive, distracted, guarded? The conversation you planned is rarely the exact conversation you get.

3. Learn to adjust to the personality across from you
Some people get sharper under pressure. Some over-explain. Some shut down. Some try to control the room. If you miss those signals, you miss your opening. And if you cannot adapt, you lose your edge.

What Poker Teaches About Reading People

At the poker table, this becomes obvious fast.

You can know the strategy.
You can understand the rules.
You can have a strong hand.

But if you cannot read people, adjust in real time, and manage your own reactions, you are only playing half the game.

Business works the same way.

AI can help you prepare for the conversation.

But you still have to walk into the room and handle the moment.

The Real Competitive Advantage

The people who stand out now are not just the ones with the best information.

They are the ones who can:

  • Read the room
  • Shift when the moment changes
  • Build trust quickly
  • Communicate with confidence when it matters most

At PokerDivas, these are the skills we teach through interactive programs and keynotes designed to strengthen communication, confidence, perception, adaptability, and decision making.

If your team is thinking about the future of leadership, collaboration, and human connection in an AI-driven world, we should talk.

👉 Visit pokerdivas.com to learn more.

Because no matter how advanced technology gets, you still have to read the room.

What Clients Are Saying

Knowing poker is a necessity to stay competitive professionally. It is a great way to get face time with clients. Similar to golf, it allows women to be at the table with potential clients that were previously off limits.
